How to get to Formentera

Getting to the smallest of the Balearic islands is easy. Along with its sister island, Ibiza, Formentera is a one of the Pine Islands, and it is the most southerly located. Although it doesn't have an airport, there are several ways to reach the island. You can cover your ground transportation on the island before your arrival by reserving a Balearic Island car hire online in advance.
From the Spanish Mainland

Boats and ferries are available for transportation from the Spanish Mainland to take you to The Balearic Islands along with your rental car from either Barcelona or Denia. The large boats from the mainland typically are in route to Ibiza, and from there you will be able to catch another ferry to Formentera.
By Plane

While you can't actually fly to Formentera, its nearest neighbor, Ibiza has an international airport which hosts flights from many major cities, and many flights from the mainland. You can have an Ibiza rental car await your arrival at the airport, and bring it along to Formentera on a ferry. Regular ferries operate from the Estacion Maritima in Ibiza Town, or certain tourist ferries run during the peak season from other parts of Ibiza.
From Ibiza

The boat from Ibiza to Formentera takes around half an hour and leaves every half hour in the summer. Trips are inexpensive and you can buy the ticket on the boat, there is no need to make a reservation. Aside from the standard ferries there is a yellow speedboat ferry which is a little more expensive. It starts from the beach of Platja d'en Bossa near Figueretes.
